The Oath. Enhanced. Uttered. Revised. Ignored.
Poly Tics . Social StudiesA Policeman’s Code Of Ethics –
As a law enforcement officer, my fundamental duty is to serve mankind; to safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception; the weak against oppression or intimidation and the peaceful against violence or disorder; and to respect the constitutional rights of all men to liberty, equality and justice.
I will keep my private life unsullied as an example to all; maintain courageous calmin the face of danger, scorn ; develop self restraint ;and be constantly mindful of personal and official life. I will be exemplaryin obeying the laws of the land.and the regulations of my department. Whatever I see or hear of a confidentioal natureor that is confided to me in my official capacity will be kept ever secret unless revelation is necessary in the performance of my duty.
I will never act officiously or permit personal feelings, prejudices, animosities or friendships to influence my decisions, withno compromise for crime and with relentless prosecution of criminals, I will enforce the law courteously and appropriately without fear or favour, malice or ill will, never employing unnecessary force or violence and never accepting gratuities.
I recognize the badge of my office as a symbol of public faith and I accept it as a public trust to be held so long as I am true to the ethics of the police service. I will constantly thrive to achieve these objectives and ideals, dedicating myself before God to my chosen profession – law enforcement.

The exact source and vintage of this policeman’s oath of office is still to be determined but it is one that was taken by a former police officer and member of legislature and parliament of Canada. It’s very thorough and comprehensive and emphasizes the need for police officers to excercise their duties from a human, ethical perspective. How might they serve the public in upholding the law? But was this creed too complex or too complicated for the average recruit to understand and execute? Was it too old fashioned? Was it too unreasonable to expect the police to uphold an oath that politicians and government could never abide by, especially under exceedingly totalitarian influences of environmental, social and non-government influence?
ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE OATHS –
Oath of Allegiance: “Do you solemnly swear that you will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, her heirs and successors according to the law, so help you God?”
Oath of Office: “Do you solemnly swear that you will faithfully, diligently and impartially execute and perform the duties required of you as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and will well and truly obey and perform all lawful orders and instructions that you receive, without fear, favor or affection of or towards any person, so help you God?”
Oath of Secrecy: “Do you solemnly swear that you will keep absolutely secret all knowledge and information of which you may become possessed through your position with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police; that you will not, without due authority in that behalf, discuss with members of the Force, or any other person, either by word or by letter, any matter which may come to your notice through your employment with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, so help you God?”
To each of these questions, the response is: ( or should be ) “I do so swear.”
In 1967, when recruit was sworn in, he or she was instructed to hold a Bible in their right hand during the swearing-in, and to kiss a Bible after the conclusion of the three oaths. This is no longer standard practice since any religious references to a higher power are now taboo in support Cultural Marxist, E.I.D. policy, in deference to the exclusive power of the state.
During the peaceful protests against the government medical tyranny that took place in Ottawa a retired RCMP officer took to a stage in full red serge dress to speak to those thousands of people. Among other things, he recited the oaths he took to be sworn in as an O.P.P. and RCMP officer.
Ahem.
I solmnly swear that I will be loyal to Canada, that I will to the best of my ability, preserve the peace, prevent offenses and discharge my other duties as faithfully and impartially and according to law, so help me God.
Or?
And.
I solemnly swear that I will faithfully, diligently and impartially execute and perform the duties required of me as a member of the RCMP and I will well and truly obey and perform all lawful orders and instructions that I receive as such without fear, favours or affection of or toward any person, so help me God.
The truly frightening component of most modern oaths of policing, especially the RCMP, is the one that vows secrecy and an obedience to a foreign corporate entity – TheCrown – and whatever political entity that happens to hold power. This specific allegiance removes the true duty of the police which is to serve mankind in a fair and ethical manner within the just laws of the land.
Of course no examination of oaths of office would be complete without citing those of the elected and unelected public servants of the corporation that is The City of Airdrie. Oh wait…unelected public servants are not required to submit to an oath of ethical behaviour but they do seem to have a well rewarded obligation to the non-government organizations that drive municipal policy. These agreements must be sealed with secret handshakes or shady basement rituals.
OATH OF OFFICE
I, _____________________, swear/Affirm that I will diligently, faithfully and to the best of my ability execute according to law the office of [Mayor or Councillor] for the City of Airdrie.
Of course the words “and to the best of my ability” do not inspire confidence since the non-representational positions on council or the mayors chair have not been vetted for their abilities. The wordage of this oath is as weak and non-commital as the people that get the job. The low rates of voter turnout reduce the idea of a fair election to an act of political appointment by non-government organizations who need obedient rubber stampers and head bobbers who will pass initiatives, mostly bad, that support the public/private partnerships of corporations that operate outside of any Democratic process or the Canadian charter of rights and Freedoms. The words “diligently” and “faithfully” are highly subjective and open to interpretation. Nowhere in this oath does the incumbent pledge to honestly and ethically serve the people that may have or may not have elected them. These weak oaths provide a convenient escape hatch, much like the ‘notwithstanding’ clause that allows federal or provincial governments to bypass, ignore or cancel certain Charter rights – from acting with integrity.
Meanwhile, down south :
Oaths of service mean nothing if the people don’t hold the oathtakers accountable.
Who are the oathkeepers?
Who do you pledge allegiance to?
