Paradiso – Eyes Were Empty, Hearts Were Cold

Mutterings And Murmurs . Songs For The Apocalypse

Paradiso (Paraiso, Cielo)

Paradiso is described as an intermediate place or state of being where the souls of the righteous await resurrection and the final judgement. It is a place of bliss, felicity or delight. It is a place or state of great happiness.

Paradise

The word paradise is an ideological term for a place of eternal and harmonious existence. It’s the opposite of the miseries of human civilization here on earth. In paradise, the chosen ones can only experience peace, prosperity, and happiness.

Where is paradise?

Is it heaven?

What is the difference?

‘Para’ – Hold it! Get Off!

Why would we have to die to inherit or be delivered to paradise? If we try to be good in this life, why can’t we have a little paradise now as an incentive to keep being good? If we are suffering but endeavor to be good, a little heaven of paradise now would ease the pain and suffering and facilitate more good works or deeds.

The Chameleons is/were a post punk band that formed in Middleton, England, UK in 1981. They are known for their atmospheric, guitar-based sound that influenced so many other bands world-wide and are regarded as one of the bands most overlooked during the 80s and after. Still good.

I recall a closing door
And I remember
Seeing shadows cross
A stained-glass stare
Long before
The strangers came down
To steal our clothing
And our consciences
And long before
Eyes were empty
Hearts were cold
We’ll watch the rattlesnake slide
Slowly swerve into view
To tease and tantalize
To suck your senses
And spit out the pieces
Magazine girl
She was living in a different world
Or is it a he
Pull back the curtain my son
I look around
The color has gone
And slowly darkness descends upon me
Paradiso
I know you lie
That much I see
Well the serpent sings his song
To so many sleeping, staring eyes
Like sheep they sing along
And clap in time to a heart that’s beating
Crazy child
She was wicked
Oh she was wild
Her eyes are open
Pull back the curtain today
I look around
The color is grey
Grey as the ghost town
That towers above me
Paradiso
I know you lie
That much is clear
To me
I see the poet and the fool
Walking hand in hand to school
And I recall the lonely outcast
And I remember
Laughing children
It was long before
Their eyes were empty
Hearts were cold
So dance this final dance with me
And wrap my sting round your spine
Will poison wash away the fear
Wipe the world from my mind
Look up
What can you do
I looked around
The color was blue
Wise up
It’s in your head
I looked around me
And the color is red
Red as the words
That I read on the wall
Paradiso
Kingdoms rise, so must they fall
And only ashes remain in the end
Paradiso
I know you lie
Lies without end
I’ll see it again and again and again
