Halloween – When The Dead Won’t Die
Mutterings And Murmurs . Social Studies“We can grab a couple a sheets and give them quite a scare” – This House Is Not for Sale – Ryan Adams
Halloween, or ‘All Hallows Eve’, or ‘All Saints Day is a holiday celebrated annually on October 31 in many countries. It has it’s origins from the Celtic, Gaelic festival of ‘Samhain’ or the Christianized version of ‘All Hallows Eve’. It is traditionally a time of remembering the dead or the faithful departed and involves guising, revelry and feasting. It, like most Christian observances, has been commercialized by Western societies and is seen as yet another expression of decadence, overindulgence and waste. Halloween is a holiday of escape from reality – one of many. Guising and masking is great cover for bad behavior. Candy, alcohol and vandalism are involved to celebrate the dead and annoy or ‘heebiejeebie’ the neighbors. Halloween has inspired a horror splatter culture in literature and film and a belief in spirits and ghosts.
Sometimes ghosts don’t know when to shut up. The good ones have good reason. They have typically become dead at the hands of bad people and they are looking for justice or looking to torment those that killed them. The bad ones are looking to be excused for their evil deeds and despicable behavior that made them dead. They whine and moan, rattle their chains like spooks on Christmas eve and send pathetic messages to explain their behavior. They also don’t want to give up those micro orgasms they get when they whine about being ignored. They want the living to accept their self proclaimed virtue as business as usual. They refuse to believe that they are dead. Their angry and virtuous messages are muffled by their masks and costumes.
How dare anyone ignore them.
Scary.
