Dog Fight

Mutterings And Murmurs . Social Studies
Dog

Third world dogs are territorial. They roam. They settle. They sleep. They interbreed. They struggle for dominance or any advantage. They bark and growl and yelp and grovel and whine to get what they need.

They are very human in this regard.

Humans have the capacity to behave like dogs when attempting to get what they want.

Third world dogs wait at tables and beg with puppy dog eyes no matter how grey they are around the jaws. Many are crippled, having been struck by dilapidated cars or motorcycles. They are scarred and tattered and missing ears and tails. Female dogs with their engorged dugs are more insistent and fierce when claiming restaurant territory. They have hungry mouths to feed.

Bitch

Some restaurants serve dog. There are shops. There are recipes. There are many countries and cultures where dog is eaten.

Meat is murder.

“Anything that walks, swims, crawls, or flies with its back to heaven is edible.”

— Chinese proverb

Cats

There are very few cats to be seen in Nicaragua. They are more discerning in their survival by necessity.

They are mostly nocturnal.

Too many dogs I guess.

Restaurants and markets tolerate them.

They are pest control.

Or?

Woof!

Meow!

Sizzle!

Tastes like chicken.

Pollo!
