Mayor’s Leadership Prayer Breakfast Sells Out

Author of the article: Riley Cassidy. Publishing date: May 11, 2022 – Airdrie Echo

Tuesday, May 3 marked the first Mayor’s Leadership Prayer Breakfast since the start of the COVID-19, but the event was still happy to sell out tickets to bring community back together once more and fundraise for the Airdrie and District Victims Assistance Society (ADVAS). 250 tickets sold for the event, filling it’s capacity within the Town and Country Centre for a morning of community, worship and a breakfast buffet, all in support of ADVAS. Mayor Peter Browns said it meant a lot to have the event sell out in its first return since 2019. “It was just so nice to connect again. The common theme from everyone was to look out for one another, which I felt strongly about,” said Brown. “I really appreciated the opportunity for ADVAS to share what they do,” he said. “When there’s someone you haven’t seen in the last two or three years and they just want to give you a big hug is pretty awesome. We’ve missed a lot these last few years.” He commended 17-year-old Zion Ben for braving the audience and saying grace that morning. “When you have the ability to stand in front of a microphone and share with 250 strangers that you’ve been struggling and these are the reasons why, it’s really remarkable,” he said. The Mayor’s Leadership Prayer Breakfast has managed to sell out every year, so to see the community support this time around wasn’t surprising at all, said Brown. “The fact that we were sold out was just great to see. To ADVAS and all of their volunteers, they are literally at your door when you need them the most,” said Brown. “Through the most catastrophic events, they’re there to support you and your family, and they’ve been doing that for many years,” he said. “The work they do is invaluable and they need to be supported, and we were so happy to pick them.”

Margot Durochet, lead organizer of the Mayor’s Leadership Prayer Breakfast, said she was thankful for the community response at the event. “It was a phenomenal response from the community, and greatly appreciated,” said Durochet. “We were pleasantly surprised when it sold out. It was remarkable, and the biggest Prayer Breakfast in eight years,” she said. “If there was any negative, it was that we couldn’t get the breakfast served fast enough.” Funds raised will first have to go to paying the events overhead costs, but ever dollar left over is being donated to ADVAS. A confirmed donation amount has yet to be determined, but will be revealed in coming weeks. But even beyond fundraising results, Durochet said it was a meaningful moment to gather with friends and family once more. “It was heartwarming to be in that room, and seeing everybody walking up to each other. It’s like they were long-lost friends,” she said. “We haven’t been together in over two years, so it was lovely to see people’s faces and socially interacting again.”

THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS AND VIRTUE SIGNALS AND CHRISTIAN VALUES –

There can be no doubt that people all over the world, especially those that are awake to the existential threats that are present today are preparing for what is to come. They are harnessing their faith, spiritual strength and resolve to protect themselves and their families from suffering and harm. Regardless of their spiritual beliefs, whether Judeo Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, or Aboriginal Mystic, people are gathering to find strength among their own and hopefully uniting with other faiths for unified strength. People are praying to their higher power in hope for salvation or strength and many are praying for courage to prepare for hardship and fight evil when it comes to their door.
